Toyota Tazz – 2001 – 1.6i 5-Speed
Our first project for 2022 is a personal family car: a 2001 Toyota Tazz 1.6i.
Purchased in 2003 from a sales representative, the Tazz already had high mileage for its age, being only two years old at the time. Despite this, the car has remained within the same family for the past 19 years and is now starting to show its age.
Currently, the car has clocked 445,000 km but still runs soundly. The engine is in good condition and does not require any major mechanical work.
This project will focus on four main areas:
•Suspension
•Interior
•Audio
•Bodywork
Our goal is to restore this 21-year-old vehicle to full functionality while retaining as many original parts as possible. For components we are unable to source, we will use suitable replacement parts that are compatible with this make and model.
Project Outline
Our first task, as with any new project, is to thoroughly inspect the vehicle and compile a list of all noticeable issues affecting the interior and exterior.
Once this is complete, the car will be sent off for a suspension inspection, and we will wait for a detailed report.
This project is what we refer to as a “rolling project”. The car is a daily driver and will continue to be used as such throughout the restoration process. It has already undergone a service and mechanical check, giving us the confidence to proceed with it remaining roadworthy and functional during the project.
Project Updates
We will provide monthly updates on the progress of the restoration. This will include insights into the work being done, as well as shout-outs to the various businesses and suppliers we use for tasks we cannot complete ourselves.
Stay tuned for the first update as we breathe new life into this beloved Toyota Tazz!
